Pro-rated Fees:

Studio Rental:$42/hr (three Hour Minimum)

Tutorials: $84/ 2-hour slot,

Introductory Four-Week Course:

Course description:

Students will learn to blow a basic clear vessel. We will cover the technical and philosophical fundamentals of simple, economical glass blowing which will give students the ability continue working with hot glass. Color will be introduced at the end of the session.

$84 2hour session

Students will blow their own piece while being supervised and guided by David Schaeffer.

David will make his own work with the remaining two hours, giving color demos and answering questions.

These tutorials are normally booked in pairs so that the total session covers four hours (2hrs/student).

Partners are encouraged to attend the entire four hours and learn from watching the other student having a tutorial.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Blown Glass Paperweight - at the artist's studio

This one-day workshop, held at Sally Rockriver's Thermal Lab, is a solid

foundation for future glass blowing courses. Intensive and hands-on, the

day includes demonstrations on how to work with molten glass accompanied by

class exercises. Students will have close-up contact with the equipment,

processes, concepts, and materials. Each participant will gather hot glass on a long pipe and make their owncolored glass paperweight and swizzle-stick canes.

INSTRUCTOR:

David was born in Detroit, Michigan and grew up in Miami, Florida where he received a B.A. in Liberal Studies and a B.F.A. in Sculpture, from Floridia International University. David then received an M.F.A. in Sculpture from the University of Cincinnati, and a second M.F.A. in Glass from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.

David has exhibited both regionally and nationally including several solo shows and has work in private collections around the country. Currently David is teaching Glassblowing at Resnik Thermal Lab in Chapel Hill, NC and he teaches Digital Art at Elon University. David is on the Board of the Alamance Artisans and is an active member of the Alamance county arts council.

ABOUT THE STUDIO FOUNDER:

Sally Resnik Rockriver opened the Resnik Thermal Lab in 1999. Prior to moving back to her homeplace in Chatham County, she was Head of Ceramics at Moorhead State University, Minnesota. Rockriver an MFA from Hunter College, and a BFA from UNC-Chapel Hill. Her work has been published in many international books, including The Best of America Glass and Best of North Carolina Artists, as well as a review in the New York Times and a cover article in Ceramics Monthly. A pioneer in the field of geochemical sculpture, Sally grows crystals on glass and ceramics at 2000 degrees F. These thermal formations become caves, sea-life, and rocks that could be from another planet and define a natural world of their own.

How to Reschedule or Cancel:

Practices:

To reschedule a practice one week prior, use email.

To reschedule a practice three days prior, phone and email.

To cancel within 24hours ALWAYS call and leave a message and email.

Cancellations must be done by phone.

Studio Time Refunds and Penalties:

More than 72 hours prior, rescheduling is done at no penalty.

Less than 72 hours prior, if rescheduling does not occur,

it is considered a cancellation.

Cancellation less than 72 hours prior to practice

results in payment of 50% for the studio time.

Cancellation less than 24 hours before practice,

results in payment of 100% for the studio time.

Cancellations can be avoided by selling the studio time.

The Thermal Lab is not responsible for arranging the sale of studio time.

Any cancellations by The Thermal Lab result in rescheduling or refund.

Non-refundable payments

For a Four Week Course:

50% non-refundable deposit

paid one week prior to class start date.

50% non-refundable final payment

paid one week prior to end of course.

No make-up classes.

Classes will not be rescheduled due to sickness.

Practices will be rescheduled due to sickness,

All practices that have been paid for as part of a four week course package,

are non-refundable but will be rescheduled.

Rescheduling and cancellations for practices

Cancellations of private lessons:

Less than 24 hour prior to lesson,

student is responsible for payment of teacher

student must contact the teacher directly.

Follow rescheduling and cancellations policies above.

The Thermal Lab is not responsible for payment

of teachers for time lost due to delayed classes

which are rescheduled

due to equipment failure, weather, or any lab failure.

The Lab will only be responsible in the case of a

class cancellation

(due to Lab failure) that is never rescheduled.
